In poker as a whole and especially in texas hold’em, there are numerous hand rankings that can win you loads of money, but equally, there are many starting hands in poker that can get you into big trouble! And the last thing you want is to start reducing your bankroll too much – especially when you’re lacking those winning texas hold em hands! So be careful with your starting hands in online poker and keep an eye on how they develop as the game goes on. Remember, texas holdem is not an easy poker game to master.
This poker article will tell you how some common starting hands that both novice poker players and even the more experienced poker players sometimes get caught out with because they are dangerous to play.
So let’s keep this simple and go back to tips and tricks for beginners poker. Any two cards of the same suit like two diamonds, hearts etc can be very popular hands that many beginners like to play. A flush (5 cards of the same suit) is a strong hand in online poker texas hold em games. Nevertheless, there are two reasons why playing any two suited cards is very dangerous.
The chances of you ‘flopping the nuts’ and getting 3 more of the same suit on the flop, is pretty slim. Even if you check in poker, after seeing the flop you have much less chance of hitting the flush. So, calling bets and raises, with already bad pot odds, on the turn and the river is more ludicrous. Plus, you may catch half a hand like second pair on the flop, and still lose money because another player has a top poker pair. And there’s no such thing as poker replay! You lose even if you have a poker copilot.
Another hand you need to be careful with is low unsuited connectors. What does this mean? For example 3 hearts & 4 diamonds, 5 clubs & 6 spades – understand? The beginner thinks, great chance of a straight run, but the chances are low. You may catch half a hand like middle pair thinking you’ve won when your opponent has laid a trap. So fold before the flop.
Another example of a pocket poker hand that’s dangerous in poker – 8 & Ace or Ace and a card under 10 - or rag aces as they are called. As soon as a beginner gets a lowish hole-card with an ace, he thinks it’s the World Series of Poker (WSOP) here I come! Crazy! The problem here is you have a low ‘kicker’; the card that accompanies the ace. Because you may pair your ace when the flop comes, you’re thinking… ‘top pair’ and go ‘all-in’ to try and win. Then you find an opponent also has the Bullets (two aces) but with a higher kicker like 10 or above! And you’ve made a clanger!
So think about your poker starting hands and don’t be scared to fold. Then practice your poker face while play continues and watch the players to learn even more!
